Thula Snanam 2026 Dates - Mudavan Muzhuku - Kadai Muzhuku Date

Thula Snanam (1st day of Aipasi month) begins on - 18 October 2026 (Sunday)

Thula Snanam ends (Kadai Muzhuku) on - 16 November 2026 (Monday)

Mudavan Muzhuku (1st Day of Karthigai Month)- 17 November 2026 (Tuesday)

Significance:

During thula snanam period the day and night will be equal. Hence this month is called Thulam (Balance). It is considered sacred to take dip in River Cauvery, during the Thula Snanam period.

It is believed that taking dip in Cauvery during Thulam Snanam period is like taking dip in River Ganges and other holy rivers.

Special Abhishekam with River Cavery thirtham will be held in Srirangam, Mayiladuthurai (Maayuram) and other temples. In Srirangam, Cauvery thirtham will be carried in Golden Kalasam at the top of elephant for Sriranganathar Abhishekam.

Taking dip on Amavasya (new moon day) day that comes in the thula snanam period is considered more sacred. Taking dip on last day of Thula Snanam period is called as Kadai Muzhukku.

Mudavan Muzhukku :

Once a Mudavan, from a far away village proceeded towards Maayuram to have Thulam Snanam. Due to his disability, he could reach Mayiladuthurai only after the Thula Snanam period is over. He was very sad and prayed to Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva appeared before him and said that he can take dip in cauvery and he would the benefit of taking dip in Thula Snanam period. That day is observed as Mudavan Muzhukku. Many would take dip on this day in River Cauvery
