West Bengal Rajya Sabha By-Election On August 9 - Seat Vacated By Dinesh Trivedi

 - Election Commission has notified by-election for West Bengal Rajya Sabha seat on August 9 (Monday) from 9 am to 4 pm IST - Counting of votes to begin at 5 pm IST

- The election was necessitated by the resignation of Dinesh Trivedi ex Trinamul Congress Member - The term of the elected member is till 2nd April 2026

- Dinesh Trivedi was former Union Railways Minister when UPA was in power. Dinesh Trivedi resigned from TMC & joined BJP earlier this year

- Trinamul Congress has won the recent West Bengal State Assembly election - BJP bagged 77 seats & AITC 213 seats

- Recently West Bengal Assembly passed resolution to create upper house in the State to faciliatate continuation of Mamata Banerjee as CM who lost election Suvendhu Adhikarai in Nandigram
