Akshaya Tritiya is the Jayanti of Sri Parashurama, the avatar of Lord Vishnu. In Puri the construction of Rath (Chariot) for Lord Jagannath commences on this day.
It is believed Maa Ganga (River Ganges) descended to earth from heaven on Akshaya Tritiya. It is also believed Sri Veda Vyasa started reciting Mahabharat, with Sri Ganesh writing Mahabharat on this day.
