- Gujarat High Court today fined AAP Leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Rs 25,000 for seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi degree details under Right to Information RTI
- Single Judge Justice Biren Vaishnav directed Arvind Kejriwal has to deposit the amount within 4 weeks with Gujarat State Legal Services Authority
- In 2016, responding on RTI request Central Information Commission CIC directed Public Information Officer PIO of Prime Minister Office PMO, PIO of Gujarat University, PIO of Delhi University to furnish details of PM Narendra Modi graduate and post graduate degrees
- Gujarat University challenged the CCI direction in High Court. PMs electoral affidavit says he completed UG degree in Gujarat University in 1978 and PG Degree in Delhi University
- PMs Lawyer while appearing for hearing said there is nothing to hide but Universities must not be compelled to disclose details as there is no Public Interest in the request and also his privacy is affected
- Arvind Kejriwal Lawyer countered that there is no childish curiosity as alleged by PM Lawyer and they sought his Degree Certificate and not marksheet
