Sri Shankara Jayanti 2026 Date & Info

Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is celebrated on April 21, 2026 (Tuesday) i.e., on Vaishakh Shukla Panchami.

Sri Shankara took avatar in Kalady, Kerala: as the only child of Sri Sivaguru and Sri Aryamba. Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya spread the Advaita Philosophy enshrined in the Upanishad.

Sri Shankara Jayanthi Celebration:


In Sringeri, Sri Shankara Jayanti is reverentially celebrated for six days every year. In 2026, the Festival is celebrated from April 17th to April 22nd.

On all days Mahanyasa Poorvaka Shata Rudra Abhishekam will be performed to Vigraha of Bhagavatpada. Parayana of four Vedas, the Prasthanatraya Bhasya and Madhaviya Shankara Digvijaya will be performed daily.

On the Jayanti day i.e., on April 21st, Sringeri Jagadguru will perform elaborate Puja to Sri Adi Shankaracharya from around noon. The Puja will end with Maha Mangala Aarti and Kanaka Abhisheka to the Vigraha of Adi Shankaracharya.

Rathotsava of Sri Shankaracharya will be held in the main Bharathi Street of Sringeri on April 22nd (the day after Shankara Jayanthi). During the festival Sringeri Jagadguru will bless devotees with Anugraha Bhashanam in the evening

Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya:


Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada is the the Avatara of Lord Shiva. Sri Shankara mastered all the 4 Vedas and took Sanyas at the age of 8 years. Sri Adi Shankara then mastered all the Shastras at the age of 12 years.

Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya completed writing all the Bhasyams at the age of 16 years. The great works of Jagadguru includes Prasthanatraya Bhasyams on Upanishad, Brahma Sutra and Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya undertook Dig Vijaya Yatra, travelled the entire Bharat 3 times and rejuvenated the Sanatana Vaidika Dharma. During his Digvijaya Yatra, Sri Shankara ascended the Sarvagnya Peetam in Kashmir.

For the sustenance and propagation of Sanatana Dharma in the country, Jagadguru Adi Shankara established Four Amnaya Peetams namely
1) Sringeri Sharada Peetam in Karnataka in the South,
2) Dwaraka Kalika Peetam in Gujarat in the West,
3) Puri Govardhana Peetam in Odisha in the East, and
4) Badrikashrama Jyotish Peetam (Joshimath) in Uttarakhand in the North

Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya was last seen by his disciples in Kedarnath, At the age of 32 years Sri Shankara finished his works and folded up his manifestation.
