- starts from January 7, 2025 (Tuesday) - Banada Ashtami is on Jan 7th, 2025 (Tuesday)
- ends on January 13, 2025 (Monday). - Shakambari Jayanti is celebrated on Purnima Jan 13th, 2025 (Monday)
Magha Gupt Navratri celebrations
- starts from January 30, 2025 (Thursday)
- ends on February 6, 2025 (Thursday).
- Vasant Panchami is celebrated on 3rd February, 2025 (Monday). Also called as Lalita Panchami / Basant Panchami. - On Vasant Panchami, Saraswati Puja is done with great devotion
- Ratha Saptami is celebrated on 4th February, 2025 (Tuesday)
Chaitra Navaratri (Vasanta Navratri) celebrations
- starts from March 30, 2025 (Sunday)
- ends on April 6, 2025 (Sunday).
- Sri Rama Navami is celebrated on April 6th, 2025 (Sunday)
Ashad Gupt Navratri celebrations
- starts from June 26, 2025 (Thursday)
- ends on July 4, 2025 (Friday).
Sharan Navaratri Festival
- starts on September 22, 2025 (Monday)
- ends on October 1, 2025 (Wednesday).
- In Sringeri, Sri Saraswathi Puja is celebrated on Moola Nakshatra on September 29th (Monday)
- Durgashtami is celebrated on September 30th (Tuesday)
- Mahanavami is celebrated on October 1st (Wednesday)
- In Tamil Nadu, Ayudha Puja & Sri Saraswathi Pooja celebrated on October 1st (Wednesday).
- Vijayadasami is celebrated on October 2nd (Thursday)
Navaratri Meaning:
Navarathri literally means nine nights. Goddess Mother in various forms like Sri Durga, Sri Lakshmi, Sri Saraswathi will be worshipped with great devotion during Navaratri.
Navaratri is celebrated four times each year viz.,
1) Vasanta Navaratri in Chaitra month (March-April),
2) Sharan Navaratri or Maha Navaratri or Shardiya Navaratri in Ashvin month (September-October),
3) Ashad Gupt Navaratri in Ashada month (June-July)
4) Magha Gupt Navaratri (January-February)
In many parts, additionally, Shakambari Navaratri (in December-January) is celebrated for 8 days from Pausha Shukla Ashtami to Paush Purnima. - Pausha Shukla Ashtami is called Banada Ashtami. - Paush Purnima (Shakambari Purnima) is celebrated as Shakambari Jayanti
Sharan Navratri in Sringeri Sri Sharadambal Temple :
In Sringeri, Sharan Navaratri is celebrated in a grand manner. Each day Goddess Sharadambal will bless devotees in special Alankaram.
The ruling pontiff Jagadguru Shankaracharya will perform special puja to Goddess Sharadamba in the noon.
There will be Darbar in the night, which is a special programme during Sharan Navaratri in Sringeri since the time of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Vidyaranya.
At the start of Darbar, Jagadguru Shankaracharya wearing crown and ornaments will face mother & walk in front of Golden Ratha of Goddess Sharadambal.
After Rathotsava, Jagadguru Shankaracharya will take his seat in the Golden throne, which is kept facing Goddess Sharadambal. Then there will be chanting of one or two chapters of Saptashati, Astavadana Seva, Aarti.
Special Shata Chandi Homam will be held during Navaratri. There will be Veda Parayanam, Valmiki Ramayan Parayanam, Sri Devi Bhagavatam Parayanam, Suvasini puja, Kanya puja, Laksharchanai and numerous other devotional event during Navaratri.
Golu in South India:
During Sharan Navaratri, Dolls depicting god, goddess, and various themes will be arranged beautifully in the pooja room of South Indian houses and Temples. This is called Bommai (doll) Kolu or Golu.
Kalasam will be kept, Rangoli will be drawn in front of the Golu and Puja will be done on all days of Navratri.
Relatives, friends, girl children and married women in the neighborhood will be invited to see the golu. Prasad, gifts and kumkums will be given to those who come to see the Golu.
