Akshaya Tritiya is the Jayanti of Sri Parashurama, the avatar of Lord Vishnu. In Puri the construction of Rath (Chariot) for Lord Jagannath commences on this day.

It is beleived Maa Ganga (River Ganges) descended to earth from heaven on Akshaya Tritiya. It is also believed Sri Veda Vyasa started reciting, with Sri Ganesh writing Mahabharat on this day.
