Dussehra is celebrated on October 8, 2019 (Tueday). Dussehra is also known as Vijayadasami, Dasara or Dashain.

Dussehra is celebrated on the 10th day from no moon day in the month of Ashvin. Lord Ram destroyed Ravana on Dussehra.

Ram Lila will be held at many places in India where the huge cut-outs of Ravana, Kumbhakarna will be set on fire. Normally Prime Minister of India will participate in the Ram Leela event at New Delhi

In Bengal, Kolkata - this day is celebrated as Bijoya Dashami. It marks the end of Durga Puja, Dasara celebration. The idols of Goddess Durga will be immersed in lake, river, sea on this day.

On this auspicious day of Vijaya Dasami, devotees will begin new ventures. Education for small kids 'Aksharabhyasam' will begin on this day. Kids will be made to write 'Om' in a plate of rice.
