Vijayadashami is celebrated on October 21, 2026 (Wednesday). Vijaya Dasami is celebrated on the tenth day in the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of Ashvin /Ashvayuja month

Note:

- Dashami Tithi starts at around 10.35 am IST on Oct 20th (Tue)

- Dashami Tithi ends at around 11.44 am IST on Oct 21st (Wed)

As per Tirupati Calendar, Mylapore Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Thiruvannamalai Sri Arunachaleshwarar Thirukovil Vijayadasami is celebrated on Oct 20th (Tue).

As per Madurai Sri Meenakshi Amman Thirukovil, Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetam, Karnataka Government Holidays Calendar Vijayadashami is celebrated on Oct 21st (Wed).

The following days are Tamilnadu Government Public Holidays Dates viz.,

- October 19 , 2026 (Monday) - Ayudha Puja &

- October 20, 2026 (Tuesday) - Vijayadashami.

Note: This blog assumes and expects that Tamil Nadu Government will additionally declare Oct 21st (Wed) as Public Holiday as the Festival nears.

Vijayadashami Significance - Oct 21st:

In most parts of India, Navratri is celebrated in Temples from October 11th to October 20th, 2026. Vijayadasami is celebrated on Oct 21st (Wed) after the completion of nine days Navratri festival.

Education for small kids 'Aksharabhyasam' will begin on this day. Kids will be made to write 'Om' in a plate of rice propitiating God to begin with their education. Admission of kids in schools will be done on this auspicious day.

On this auspicious day of Vijayadasami, devotees will start new ventures.

In Sringeri, Sri Rama Pattabhisheka Sarga will be read by Jagadguru Shankaarcharya on Vijayadasami, at around 10 am in the morning. One can see live telecast in Sri Sankara TV

In Bengal, Kolkata - festival is called as Bijoya Dashami. It marks the end of Durga Puja celebration. Sri Durga Visarjan will be held on this day i.e., the idols of Goddess Durga will be immersed in lake, river, sea on this day.

Ram Leela: Vijayadasami is also known as Dussehra. Ram Lila will be held at many places in India where the huge cut-outs of Ravana, Kumbhakarna will be set on fire. Normally Prime Minister of India will participate in the Ram Leela event at New Delhi

Srirangam Ambu Poduthal:

In Srirangam, Namperumal will be taken in procession in palanquin (pallakku) to bless devotees at Kaattu Azhagiya Singar Temple Asthana Mandapam in the morning.

In evening Namperumal will bless devotees in Thanga Guthirai Vahanam (Golden Horse) & the ritual of shooting arrow (Ambu Poduthal) on Vanni Tree will be held. Namperumal will return to Sanctum Sanctorium after Thiruveethi Ula

In 2027, Vijayadasami is celebrated on October 10, 2027 (Sunday)
