Thiruvonam the harvest & trade Festival is traditionally celebrated for ten days from Hastham Nakshtara day to Shravana Nakshatra day. Shravana Nakshatra is traditional Panchangam is referred as Thiruvonam Natchathiram in Malayalam.
It is believed King Maveli visits the Kerala Naadu on the auspicious day of Onam Festival. People in Kerala welcome King Mahabali with various varieties of Pookalam, Thumpapoo, Ona Sadya, Puliyattam (also referred as Pulikali) etc
The respected Mothers of Kerala Naadu will perform cultural adaptation of Kaikotikali (thalam with hands art) around Nilavilakku with on the fly spontaneous creation & rendition of gramattical songs Paatu.
