- Supreme Court of India has questioned Union Government the constitutional validity of Sedition law
- SC Chief Justice of India CJI NV Ramana questioned Solicitor General and asked if the sedition law still necessary even after 75 years of Independence
- SC dubbed the sedition law as 'Colonial Law' used against Mahatma Gandhiji, Bal Gangadar Tilak and other freedom fighters
- CJI said "if you look at the history of use of this section 124A of IPC, you will find conviction rate is very low. There is misuse of power by executives"
- Justice Ramana said 'Sedition law is like giving a saw to carpenter to cut a piece of wood but is used to cut the entire forest'
- CJI said people are scared of Police using section 124A. CJI added they are not blaming any State or Union Government
