Timings in Detail:
- Amavasai Tithi starts at 12.44 am IST (soon after Midnight on start of Sunday - 18-January-2026)
- Amavasai Tithi ends at 1.54 am IST (after Midnight on start of Monday - 19-January-2026)
-- In Rameswaram, on the day of Thai Amavasai, Temple will be remain open continuously from 4 am to 9 pm IST (Temple will not be closed in the afternoon). Sri Rama will bless devotees in Thanga Garuda Vahanam. Sri Rama will come in procession to Agni Theertham Kadarkarai and Theerthavari will be held after 10 am in the morning / noon
Amavasai in Tamil Nadu:
- In Tamil Nadu, on Thai Amavasai - lakhs of Devotees will throng Holy Theerthas to offer Pitru Tharpanam i.e., offer oblation to their ancestors.
- In Rameswaram, devotees will take holy dip in Agni Theertham & offer tharpanam with water, sesame seeds etc. Pinda Dhanam for ancestors is done by dissolving rice balls in water bodies using the service of Purohits
- On Amavasai, the roads from bus stand to Rameshwaram Temple Agni Theertham will be jam packed with movement of devotees
- Special buses will be arranged from different parts of the State to Rameswaram during Amavasai. Railways will run special trains especially from Madurai to Rameshwaram
- Sometimes the Amavasyai tithi will be present starting on one day and ending on the next day. So there will be rush for around 1 or 2 days in Rameswaram every month during Amavasai
- Some devotees offer tharpanam on the day when Amavasai Tithi is present at the Noon, while some others offer tharpanam on the day when Amavasyai Tithi is present in the Morning
- In Chennai Mylapore Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple Tank many devotees gather to offer Amavasai Tithi Tharapanam to their ancestors. Vedic Pundits can be seen conducting the event
- In Tiruchi Srirangam Amma Mandapam River Cauvery Banks, thousands of devotees offer oblation thithi tharpanam to their ancestors on Amavasai
- Srirangam is worshipped as 'Bhuloka Vaikundam'. Hundreds of policemen are normally deployed to manage floods of people especially during Aadi Amavasai, Thai Amavasai, Mahalaya Amavasya
